Tagging From Upload

Overview: The following tutorial is a step by step guide on how to tag an image directly after uploading into your Photobucket account. A tag is text that uniquely identifies an image or section of an image. Each tag can be up to fifty (50) characters in length, and up to twenty (20) tags can be added to an individual image. Tags are only available for image files at this time.

Photobucket tagging gives you the unique ability to share tagged and linked images across social networks and the Web. When tagged images are displayed on Photobucket, embedded onto other sites or shared by email, viewers of those images can see the tags, click on links, and also find more images with the same tags on Photobucket.

Requirements: You must be a Photobucket account holder and be using a web browser that supports javascript and/or a web browser that has javascript enabled.

If you do not have an account with Photobucket, you can sign up here.

Steps to Take:
  1. Log into your Photobucket account at http://www.photobucket.com
  2. From the navigation bar at the top of your album, select the "albums & upload" tab.
  3. Click on the "more options" link on your upload panel and make sure the "Add more tags and descriptions after upload" box is checked. Click on the Save button.

Note: If you are using the "old uploader," click on the "options" link to access this feature.

  4. Browse for some images you wish to upload. Tags are only available for images at this time.
  5. You can also choose to use the "bulk uploader" for uploading larger quantities of images in bulk.
  6. After your image, or images, have been successfully uploaded, you will need to click on the photo preview or the "click to add tags" link to begin the tagging process.

Note: If you have uploaded a lot of images at once, you can use the pagination at the bottom of this page to navigate to other files.

  7. You can add a title (brief explanation) or a description (a longer explanation that can be up to 1000 characters) to your image here.
  8. If you are not interested in tagging your content at this time, simply click on the "skip this step now" link to be taken back to your album. If you want to always skip this step after upload, click on the "always skip this step" link. You can turn this feature back on from your upload "options" at any time if you wish.
  9. When you click on the photo preview or the "click to add tags" link a marquee selection tool will appear over your image. You can change the size of this box and drag it to any location over your image that you wish.

Note: You can only have up to 20 tags on an image at any given time.

Note: If you have multiple tags on an image, they will be layered according to the size of the tag-box that you original created. Largest in the back, smallest in the front.

  10. Type a name for your tag in this field.
  11. If you wish to import a contact from one of the listed email carriers to use as a tag, simply click on the appropriate button or import link.
  12. If what you are tagging is a person, enter their email address here and we'll send them a link to your image!
  13. If you would like to make your tag clickable and link it to a website, enter the URL here. In order to ensure that your link will work, please make sure you follow the URL example that is found beneath this field.
  14. When you are satisfied with your tag, click on the "Save" button.
  15. Your tag will now display on your image when you mouse-over the area where it was created.

Note: If you had added a URL to your tag, click directly on the tag name to be taken to that website.

  16. You can view all of the tags that you have just added to your image here. If you had added a URL to your tag, you can view it here. If you wish to remove your tag click on the "remove" link. You can add more tags by clicking the "click to add tags" link, or simply click on a different location on your preview image.
  17. After you are finished tagging your images, click on the "save and continue" button to be taken into your album.

Note: If you have multiple pages of images to tag, the "save and continue" button will take you to the next page of images, and the "return to album" button will take you back into your album at any time.
