Public/Private Album Settings

Overview: The following tutorial is a step by step guide on how to change the Public/Private permissions on a per album basis inside of your Photobucket account. You can now specify which photo and video albums in your account to make publicly available, and which to remain password protected. You can also give others access to private albums using a “guest” password that you select.

Requirements: You must be a Pro Photobucket account holder and have already created sub albums within your account. To view our tutorial on creating sub albums, please click here.

Steps to Take:
  1. Log into your Photobucket account at http://www.photobucket.com
  2. You will notice a drop down menu next to the "current album" that will either say 'Public' or 'Private.' Click on this link to change the permissions on your album.

Note: If you would like to change the permissions of individual sub albums, your main album must first be set to 'Public.'

  3. When your main album is set to 'Public,' you will then be able to change the permissions of your sub albums. Simply click on the small 'people' icon that is located next to the rename and delete icons on the sub album index.

Note: When an album is set to Public, anyone can view your content via a URL or by using Photobucket's search capabilities.

  4. If your sub album is set to public, click on the "private | change guest password" link to change the status of your album and set an optional guest password. If your sub album is set to private, click on the "public" link to make its contents accessible to everyone again.
  5. A screen will pop up telling you that all content and sub albums within the particular album will inherit the permissions you are about to set. You can create or change a guest password from the yellow box. If you do not wish to have guest access for the album, leave this blank.

Note Passwords must be at least 5 characters long. They can only contain the characters a-z, A-Z, 0-9, -,_

  6. Click the 'save' button to make your changes take effect.
  7. Your sub album will now display a 'lock' icon. This indicates that it has been successfully set to Private.

Note You can only change the permissions on a sub album from the album index on your main page.

  8. You can also change your root level (entire album Public or Private) permissions from your Photobucket account options 'Album Settings' section.
