Video Skins

Overview: The following tutorial is a step by step guide on how to add a "skin" to the videos and Remixes in your Photobucket account. Adding an image as a "skin" will allow you to customize the look of the background of the video player!

Requirements: You must be a Photobucket account holder. You must already have video uploaded into your account, or have created Remixes. You can "skin" a video or Remix with images that are already uploaded into your account, or images that have not been uploaded yet.

Steps to Take:
  1. Log into your Photobucket account at http://www.photobucket.com
  2. From the navigation bar at the top of your album, select the "albums & upload" tab.
  3. Navigate to the album, or sub album, where you have uploaded a video into. For additional instructions on video uploading, please click here
  4. Photobucket's video player has a pixel dimension of 430x389. For best results, please make sure the image that you would like to use for your skin is approximately this size and in a 4:3 aspect ratio.

Note: You can change the "max image size" in the Upload Panel's "options" prior to uploading for better skinning compatibility. An image size that is too small or too large may cause unwanted stretching or distortion of your skin.

  5. Click on the "Browse..." button to locate the image that you would like to skin your video player with.

Note: For the image that you want to skin, you must first change the image filename to one of the following:

    player_skin.jpg

    player_skin.gif

  6. Click on the "Upload" button to proceed. Your image will now be uploaded into your account.

Note The image with the filename from Step #5 must be in the same album as your video file.

  7. To use an image for a skin that is already uploaded into your account, simply view the image on the full size page and select the "rename" link from the bottom left corner of the page.

Note: Use the same filenames and extensions found in Step 5.

  8. Your video will not appear to be skinned in the thumbnail view. Click on the thumbnail of your video to see the skin applied!
  9. On the full size page, your custom skin is now viewable on the video player!
You can only have one image act as a skin per album at any given time. Simply create a new sub album in your Photobucket account, move or upload a video into it, and use the steps in this tutorial to add another skin!
